Senior Material(Europe)AB

Senior Material

Senior Material

Senior Materia

Senior Materia

2、Senior Materia

The Contribution of Senior Material (Europe) AB to Sweden’s Green Transition and Social Development

1. Contribution to Green Transition

Providing Key Materials Supporting Europe’s Electrification and Green Transition

In Europe’s efforts to advance the green transition and achieve “climate neutrality,” lithium-ion batteries are one of the core technologies underpinning electric mobility and renewable energy storage systems. Lithium battery separators, as a critical material determining battery safety, lifespan, and energy efficiency, play a foundational role across the entire new energy industrial chain. At present, approximately 80% of battery separators used in Europe are imported from outside the continent.

As a leading global manufacturer of lithium battery separators, Shenzhen Senior Material Technology Co., Ltd. (Senior Material) has continuously supplied high-performance separator products to the European market, providing vital material support for the development of Europe’s new energy vehicle and energy storage industries. In 2021, Senior Material invested in the establishment of Senior Material (Europe) AB in Eskilstuna, Sweden, with a planned total investment of EUR 450 million, focusing on the research, manufacturing, and sales of lithium battery separators. This represents a deep engagement in Europe’s green transition and aligns with Sweden’s and the EU’s policy objectives of “supporting green industries and stabilizing investment expectations.”

Strengthening the Resilience of Europe’s Local Green Industrial Supply Chain

Senior Material’s presence in Sweden helps establish a localized, low-carbon, and sustainable battery materials supply chain, reducing Europe’s reliance on imports from outside the region. At the same time, the investment creates local employment opportunities and promotes the development of related industrial clusters such as battery materials manufacturing, equipment, engineering, and services, thereby enhancing the autonomy and resilience of Europe’s new energy industrial chain.

Supporting the Low-Carbon Upgrading of Europe’s Battery and Automotive Industries

Through cooperation with European battery manufacturers and the new energy vehicle industry, Senior Material provides a stable and scalable supply of battery separators, supporting the continuous capacity expansion and technological upgrading of battery plants. This contributes to improved energy density, cycle life, and safety of European power batteries, while providing essential support for the widespread adoption of electric vehicles and the achievement of emission reduction targets in the transportation sector, driving Europe’s transport system toward a low-carbon and zero-emission future.

Promoting China–Europe Green Cooperation and the Achievement of Global Climate Goals

The development of Senior Material in Sweden not only reflects the company’s long-term commitment to Europe’s green transition objectives but also serves as a representative example of China–Europe cooperation in the fields of green energy and sustainable industry. Through industrial investment, technological exchange, talent development, and extensive local collaboration, the company makes positive contributions to Europe’s green growth and global climate goals, while promoting the global new energy industry toward a more sustainable direction.

2. Senior Material’s Contribution to Sweden’s Economic and Social Development

Following Chinese automotive company Geely’s investment in Sweden, Senior Material represents the second-largest industrial investment by a Chinese company in the country. Over a five-year period in Eskilstuna, the company has invested more than SEK 3.5 billion, providing over 300 long-term engineering and construction jobs in Sweden and across Europe. The company currently employs more than 130 people, and once fully operational, total employment will exceed 500 employees.

Over the past five years, the company has paid approximately SEK 100 million in accumulated personal income taxes and employer contributions, while also stimulating the development of Sweden’s local economy, including tourism, housing, daily consumption, and service industries.
